A native Texan, Dan grew up in Harlingen. He served honorably in the United States Navy as an Air Traffic Controller for four years. Upon completion of his enlistment, he attended the University of Texas-Pan American and received a degree in finance, then continued his education at Southwest Texas State University where he earned his MBA. While in college, Dan also earned membership to Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business fraternity honor society.
