Texas Leads the Nation in Population Growth
HOUSTON (Jan 20, 2010) — Everything is bigger in Texas, and that now includes population growth. The Census Bureau recently released its annual population estimates, and the Lone Star State added more people than any other in the nation with 478,000 new residents.
One of the reasons may be that Texas has fared better than other states during the recent troubled financial times. Home prices have remained affordable and the unemployment rate was two full percentage points below the national average in October.
Texas home sales increased in 2009 and are projected by the Mortgage Bankers Association to continue to grow in 2010. Additionally, while the MBA has forecasted mortgage rates to increase, interest rates are predicted to remain relatively low.
“We haven’t had the same difficulties many other companies may have had,” said Marc Laird, CEO of Cornerstone Mortgage Company, based in Houston. “We’ve actually had some of our most profitable years during the credit crunch. We’ve always maintained honesty and integrity with our home loans, and that has served us quite well.”
Cornerstone Mortgage Company is a full-service mortgage banker with 45 offices in 12 states, including Texas, Oklahoma and California. Founded in 1988, Cornerstone is the seventh-largest independent mortgage company in the U.S., and is a Top 30 National Lender.
